Karen Wattenmaker is an educational consultant specializing in the systems needed to support all learners. She is a former classroom English Language Development teacher, Dual Immersion teacher, instructional coach, program administrator, and data assessment and research analyst.
In these roles, she designed a tool to help teachers implement best practices for creating language outcomes which was celebrated by WIDA and led to an invitation to present at a National WIDA conference. In addition, she co-designed and implemented a knowledge based ELD curriculum centered on evidence-informed practices which resulted in over 70% of EL students scoring in the superior range on ACCESS growth, and 95% of ALL students scoring adequate growth over the two-year trial.
She is passionate about working with districts to close the opportunity gap by taking current research and making it actionable for teachers through understanding the why, but focusing on the how.
